GOLD COAST IN-TOWN

An empty-nester couple relocating from Toronto to Chicago engaged Kadlec Architecture + Design to guide the custom build-out and interior design of their new residence at No. 9 Walton. Having purchased the unit prior to construction, the clients had the opportunity to customize the layout, finishes, and details to reflect their lifestyle while creating a sophisticated backdrop for their contemporary art collection.

At the heart of the home, a generous great room brings together living, dining, and family spaces while extending naturally to a covered outdoor terrace. A contrasting dark-toned study with custom millwork, fireplace, and integrated video art installation provides an intimate retreat within the open plan.

A restrained palette of materials and contemporary furnishings is balanced by vintage-inspired details, including lighting selections in the entry and powder room that subtly reference the building’s historic character. The result is a warm, highly personal residence that reflects the clients’ modern lifestyle while feeling thoughtfully connected to its architectural setting.
