STREETERVILLE WEEKENDER
A Washington, DC-based executive who spends weekends in Chicago engaged Kadlec Architecture + Design to renovate her industrial loft-style apartment. In contrast to the glass and concrete environment of her corporate office, the home was designed as a more personal expression of her lifestyle—softening the industrial character of the space through natural materials, sculptural furnishings, and a calm, layered palette.
Custom millwork brings a sense of order and warmth to the open loft, including a panelized storage wall and floating rift white oak shelving that provide both function and architectural definition. Textured fabrics, organic materials, and carefully selected artwork create a softer counterpoint to the apartment’s modernist structure.
The balance of influences is captured in the living space, where a delicate floral painting brings a distinctly personal quality to the otherwise restrained interior. The result is a sophisticated urban residence that balances modernist simplicity with warmth, texture, and individuality.
